RANGER BASKETBALL
“AIMING FOR GOALS HIGHER THAN 10 FEET”
YOUTH BASKETBALL
VISION: I would like to have you help coach/supervise your sons youth basketball team. Regardless of your basketball knowledge or background; I/we need your help. It could be in the field of coaching, organization, or simply gym supervision. We will practice in one gym with each grade level at a basket or two depending on the numbers.
EVOLUTION: For several years, Mr. Woodward and I used a LiL Rangers program to teach fundamentals. Many of our athletes started going with travel teams and our participation numbers dropped. This is a win-win. Players get fundamentals and coaches get gym time without traveling to Rapid City. We are planting seeds for a successful boys basketball program. I realize it is a bold statement; but I want our student-athletes to PLAY IN THE STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT WHEN THEY GET TO HIGH SCHOOL.
ACTION STEPS:
1. Continue to send kids to Lil Rangers basketball camp in summer and Fall
2. Look for teams. Last year an Upwards Team was dedicated to K-2 (Coached by Greg Schroeder) and 3-4 (Coached by Josh Daiss). Middle school is coached by Ken Raga and Travis Eckert. High School is coached by Blake Gardner and Nate Bayne.
3. Hill City Youth Sports Program- Travis Eckert is in the process of creating a youth sports program for Hill City kids.
